How to buy a hair barrette

Most people think that buying a hair barrette is a simple task. Go to a store, spend a couple of dollars on a barrette and you are done.

Unfortunately, there is a key step that people miss when buying a barrette. If you ignore this step, you will end up wasting your money on barrettes that fall apart or slide out of your hair.

Make sure that you are buying a barrette with a Made in France quality barrette back.
Most hair barrettes you find in a store or online do not use made in France barrette backs.

You can tell if the barrette back is made in France by the stamp on the middle piece of the barrette. Also, the middle piece will not move. All the hair barrettes at Byrd Designs are made in our studio and use the higher quality made in France hair barrettes backs.

Once you've made sure that the barrette back is made in france, the next step is to decide what you want your hair barrette to do. Are you looking for a barrette to hold all your hair in a ponytail or a French twist? Perhaps you only want to wear a barrette to the sides of your hair. Maybe you just have to hold a couple of wisps. Below is another example of how you might want to wear your hair.

The most common sizes of hair barrettes are 80 mm (3 and 1/4 inches), as well as 60 mm (2 and 1/4 inches). The 80 mm barrette is best used for holding all your hair back whereas the 60 mm barrette is best used to hold the sides of your hair usually worn at the top of your head.

In addition, there are smaller sizes. Byrd Designs carries 40 mm (1 and 1/2 inches) barrettes that are perfect for holding a few wisps of hair from the sides. These are fun hair accessories that can dress up any wardrobe.

Any way you go, the French quality hair barrette will hold all types of hair and you can be creative in all the different types of hair styles you can make with the right hair clip.
